The pair don't seem primed for an immediate reconciliation akin to the one at the beginning of season 2, but it's possible that they could revisit their relationship down the road. Towards the end of Euphoria season 2's finale, the pair finally sit down together after the conclusion of Lexi's play, and Jules expresses that she still loves Rue.ĭespite mending fences with Elliot (Dominic Fike), who also participated in Rue's intervention in episode 5, it may take longer for Rue to forgive Jules. With Jules being so integral to Rue's journey, though, this seemed particularly egregious. After Jules participated in Rue's intervention in episode 5, Rue said some truly horrible things to Jules and Hunter Schafer's character was largely sidelined for the rest of the season, something that is indicative of a larger pattern with several characters. Rue and Jules, the relationship at the center of Euphoria, was irrevocably changed in season 2.
With Fez left alive, Angus Cloud's character will have to deal with the fact that one of the only people he's ever cared for has died and while this sets up an interesting story for him in Euphoria season 3, it still doesn't quite make sense. This should put to rest any theories about Ashtray being the third Jacobs son that Euphoria has hinted at, but it also brings to light one of the finale's most baffling decisions-why on earth is the pre-teen Ashtray so willing to go toe-to-toe with the police? The character had already displayed a propensity for violence in his willingness to quickly kill Mouse and Custer, the latter of whom is knifed in the neck by Ashtray in the finale, but Ashtray's death seems like a way to serve Fez's story more than anything.
East Highland's resident drug dealer is left wounded after a SWAT team descends on his house, with Ashtray facing off against the cops in a fatal gunfight as a fading Fez watches on. Fez's fate is left unknown at the end of Euphoria season 2. At some point, Nate needs to either be written off the show (be it through death, imprisonment, etc.) or he needs to become a less hateable person. The show's current status quo, where Nate gets away with his crimes and continues to manipulate everyone around him, isn't sustainable. Nate has been the closest thing to a villain the show has had so far, but the show can't keep him in that role forever if it wants to stay fresh.
When (or if) the show decides to address this mystery, the way it chooses to go about it should be a good indicator of where showrunner Sam Levinson wants to go with Nate's character. As much as the Jacobs family likes to hide stuff from each other, it seems possible that the hidden history behind the third brother is something they've all been on the same page about from the show's beginning. After all, as Cal stares at the picture in the middle of his drunken rant to his family, the words "We all have secrets" come out of his mouth.Īlthough Cal was outwardly talking about his son Aaron's porn habits at the time, it doesn't seem like a coincidence that the show timed the line the way it did. The idea that the circumstances around his disappearance were hushed up seems like the most likely of these theories so far. Some fans have suggested the kid was LGBTQ+ and was disowned by the family for it, or that he was killed by a family member and the murder was covered up. Either that or he was sent away to some kind of psych ward, similar to the place that Jules was sent to as a child. Most of the other theories tend to take a more tragic direction: a big one floating around on fan forums is that Nate, being the psychopath he\s been shown to be, bullied his younger brother so much that the kid died by suicide.
